Lipstick Laws by Amy Holder

                                  The Lipstick Laws

"At Penford High School, Britney Taylor is the queen bee. She dates whomever she likes, rules over her inner circle of friends like Genghis Khan, and can ruin anyone's life with a snap of perfectly manicured fingers. Just ask the unfortunate few who have crossed her.   For April Bowers, Britney is also the answer to her prayers. April is so unpopular, kids don't even know she exists. But one lunch spent at Britney's table, and April is basking in the glow of popularity.   But Britney's friendship comes with a high price tag. How much is April willing to pay?"

Hmm..this wasn't on my 2011 DAC list, because i am not into the loser-girl-gets-popular-and-everybody-learns-a-lesson books. But i requested it on NetGalley because i like the cover very much and it was DAC listed. This is my first pre-published read so i was very thrilled!
April Bowers has been in Penford High School for two years and is a nobody until Britney Taylor-the most popular girl in school-invites her to sit at her lunch table. And April being a bra-stuffing nobody is thrilled! But obviously popularity comes with a price-tag especially in the case of Britney Taylor. Is April prepared to pay the entire price?
Its more of a middle grade book rather than a young adult.I didn't quite enjoy the book, because its not the sort of book i would pick up. The plot was very predictable and the characters weak. The plot seemed very cliche to me, the story is very typical of high-school. A lot like the movie Mean Girls. I did like a chapter or two in the book. But otherwise i would give it an average rating because Amy Holder's writing was good;it kept me engaged enough to finish the book.
A lot of people would beg to differ, but i guess because i am not into these sort of books...

  1. I just posted my review for this book the other day. I agree with you, I was reminded a lot of Mean Girls. I did like the author's writing. I thought it was really funny, but I did have some trouble liking April.
