Once Upon a Read-a-Thon...

Once Upon a Read-a-Thon

Oo a Read-a-thon! My first time participating in one! I was two-minded about joining because my school starts on the 11th. But i shall go for it anyway, despite how busy first few days of school can be!! Also i haven't done too much reading off late and my TBR pile is getting stale! Needs urgent clearing!

So here are the details..
This is the second annual Read-a-Thon hosted by Lori @ Pure Imagination, Candace @ Candace's Blog and Angel @ Reading Angel
The aim is to Read as much as you can between the 11th and 13th July!!
I shall update my reading progress and other read-a-Thon related shindigs here...
Are you participating in this??

(9th July 2011)

I will be updating my reading status here and perhaps on Twitter too! I think I will aim for 3 books, since its 3 days. I know its a very small goal, but I am a slow reader and school starts Monday so it will be hard for me to pull out time..Nevertheless I want to go on the Read-a-thon! Though if i surprise myself and finish real fast then i'll extend the challenge..

Here is my list from which i will be picking the final 3....

The Girl Who Played with Fire by Stieg Larsson (this one is definitely on the list!)
The Betrayal of Maggie Blair- Elizabeth Laird
Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte
The Hobbit by J.R.R Tolkein
The Blind Watchmaker by Richard Dawkins...

I will upload a final list over the next few days...Any suggestions on which ones i should keep on my list? What is your goal for the challenge..leave me a link so i can drop by..
Ooh also if you have a Twitter Id, don't forget to leave me your id so i can follow your progress there...

13th July 2011

My current status..Haven't been online a lot so missed a lot of the event..:(
I managed to read only one book from my ambitious list..but it was 746 pages and i had school..so maybe i can forgive myself..

My mini-challenges...

@ YA Bliss- Love Triangle dilemmas-
1) Dimitri vs Adrian for Rose Hathaway from the Vampire Academy Series

2) Jacob vs Edward for Bella Swan- I am not a Twilight fan and don't support either (but after the movie more Edward than Jacob..*hehe*) but this is the most popular and seeming ultimate triangle
3) umm...so hard..when it comes down to it..15 minutes later..can't come up with a third..:/

@ The Bookish Types- Judging a book by its cover

Haha..i like this so fun! :D

Uncommon Criminals (Heist Society, #2)

Katy Hilton is the daughter of the richest man in town, in fact richer than the people who produced 90210 or perhaps the producers of Star World all together. Obviously Katy lives the up to it clothed in her favorite brands, flying around the world on private jets and throwing mega parties over at her mansion. Aside from being rich and beautiful Katy also has a brain. She has a real talent.
This talent runs in the family and is in fact a well kept secret.
But all secrets are revealed eventually...
Can the Hilton pull of their biggest Heist this time?

@ Wicked Awesome Books - Matchmaking

Readers turn cupids eh?!
Hmm...this took me a while to browse the entire archives of couple and then work put compatibly and all..! lol

Here is what i came up with- Rose Hathaway ( from the Vampire Academy series) and Patch Cipriano (Hush, Hush) ! I know your going what?! Vampire bodyguard and a Fallen Angel! Wow, but weirder things have happened?! I think they go because Rose is so bold upfront and impulsive  and Patch is bold too. He can be brutal and intimidating and so can Rose! Yes opposites attract but hey they're  going to prove a challenge to each other! And a good challenge leads to some lurrve! :) What match did you make?

  1. Did you do the read-a-thon? What books did you choose for it?
I really like 'Wuthering Heights' and 'The Hobbit'. 'Blind Watchmaker', aint a book that I can read continuously...I usually read about a chapter of a book like that, and follow it up with reading some fun, absorbing and completely fictional story for the rest of the day...by forcing certain parts of my mind into a different activity, I kind of end up finding that a lot of thoughts that reading a science book provokes settle down in an entirely different part of my head...and, the next day, I can get back to reading the next chapter of the science book in a way that the patterns and connections with the chapter on the previous day make perfect sense.
Does that happen to you too, ever?

  2. You nailed it! I have the exact same feeling with heavy science content! Sometimes the info can get overwhelming to me..i often need to mull over what was explained and maybe talk to some other people about it and then bingo i totally get what he/she is saying! :D

  3. Ooh, interesting matchmaking going on. I've never read the VA series, but it sounds like Patch could be very challenged with Rose. Thanks for joining in!
