Letter to the director: Workin' Moms on Netflix

Dear Catherine Reitman, Paul Fox, Aleysa Young,

One of the strongest arguments being made for more women behind the camera and involved in the creation aspect of film and tv has been to create stories that have more depth and explore women's (actual) responses to life in greater detail. Workin' Mom is a beautiful instance of just that. From Anne & Kate's friendship, the silent judgement among ALL the moms on Val's desperate behavior around Ian to the messed up mother-daughter relationships- the show covers them all. Not only does it strengthen female characters and increase their stake in the larger narrative, it also shows stories that women can actually relate to. Instead of calling it "just some weird thing women do," the show portrays these complex and murky instances.

Thanks for proving them all wrong!
