How To Be Alone by Tanya Davis

Image
"If you are at first lonely, be patient. If you've not been alone much, or if when you were, you weren't okay with it, then just wait. You'll find it's fine to be alone once you're embracing it.
We could start with the acceptable places, the bathroom, the coffee shop, the library. Where you can stall and read the paper, where you can get your caffeine fix and sit and stay there. Where you can browse the stacks and smell the books. You're not supposed to talk much anyway so it's safe there.
There's also the gym. If you're shy you could hang out with yourself in mirrors, you could put headphones in (guitar stroke).
And there's public transportation, because we all gotta go places.
And there's prayer and meditation. No one will think less if you're hanging with your breath seeking peace and salvation.
Start simple. Things you may have previously (electric guitar plucking) based on your avoid being alone principals.
The lunch counter. Wher…

My Misadventures as Teenage Rock Star by Joyce Raskin

Image
"Rock ’n’ roll isn’t just about sex and drugs. It’s about self-expression, lasting friendships, and self-empowerment. That’s what Alex learns after she starts playing bass for a rock band in this almost true story. Joyce Raskin, author and musician, culls from her memories to create this funny, touching, and honest look at what it’s like to be a teenager, a girl, and a rock star all at the same time. "

I read it off NetGalley sometime last week. It was a really short and simple story- 14 year old Alex is the typical teen with image issues ,insecurity and crushes. Her story is a short one- her brother asks her to join a band as a bass player. And she does out of daze and confusion. It turns out to be a lot more fun than she anticipates. And the story as the title suggests is about her adventure as one or should i say "misadventures". The plot and writing was very plain, it was more informative than story telling which put me off. I still finished the book but i didn&#…

The Wedding by Nicholas Sparks

Image
"The long-awaited follow-up to his classic tale of enduring love, The Notebook. After 30 years, Wilson Lewis, son-in-law to Noah and Allie (of The Notebook fame), is forced to admit that the romance has gone out of his marriage. Despite the shining example of his in-laws' 50-year love affair, Wilson himself is a man unable to express how he truly feels. With the distractions of his daughter's upcoming wedding he is forced to realize how close he is to losing his own wife Jane. But if Wilson is sure of anything, it's this: His love for his wife has only intensified over the years, and he wants nothing more than to make their marriage work. Now, with the memories of his in-laws' inspiring life together as his guide, Wilson pledges to find a way to make his wife fall in love with him. . . again..."

I read this one few weeks back as part of the Nicholas Sparks reading Challenge!
Just been too lazy to type up the review.!
Tear-wrenching just like all his other books…

REVIEW OF A TIMELESS CLASSIC - How the Grinch Stole Christmas - Dr. Seuss

Image
There is a certain point where books (even at the epitome of humor) leave you sour and unwilling to struggle through to the last pages. No! Don't send me hate mail yet, because I am not criticizing this wonderful creation, for this is a sole book that veered off that precarious peak and managed to leave me in a fit of infantile giggles through out... there isn't a Dr Suess book that doesn't extract a gasp and/or amusement from me... thumbs up and cheers, because I absolutely feasted off the cheeky humor and the little quintessentially Dr.Seuss anecdotes. Never have I so giddily devoured a book like I have this one. It's very short, snappy and oh! So cute... If it were a person,  how I'd like to  pinch it's cheeks!! Read it if you feel you're growing up too fast, and want a trip down memory lane, to a time when all that mattered were funny little rhymes....

I Know you've probably figured this bit out already, but hey it's mandatory! Despite the fact o…

REVIEW ALERT!!! Pulling Princes by Tyne O Connel

Image
I was ecstatic to read this book, and was prancing all around the book shop, overturning a few intimidating novels along the way in search of it. These novels bit persistently at my will power and taunted me to buy them, but no I said! I eschewed them with a firm, un-infiltratable hand and smirked.... Because for the first time I had deemed Pulling Princes as my weekend read, and was determined to purchase that, and that alone!
And how inexplicably thrilled I was by the glossy, contemporary cover, and by it's cheeky, enchanting storyline! This breathtaking specimen inflicted the final blow on my now withering resolution, I neglected the pleas of the weekend, and crouched down right there in the store and began to read.
To give you a brief summary, this book is about an unpopular, insecure American girl who's been inclined to attend boarding school in London and endure the mirthless taunts about her origin, accent and unsuitability. In other words she has been classified as a gee…

Cover Crazyis a weekly meme hosted by The Book Worms on Mondays. The idea is to showcase book covers that draw your attention. This week i am crazy about...

I've been looking for this book to feature on Cover Crazy for ages (i forgot the title..hehe), i was browsing through my TBR list on Goodreads and it caught my attention (again!)
I LOVE her supper frilly frock and the blue stockings!I also love her red shoes-okay i love her entire ensemble (plush velvet couch and notebook included)! And i love her very bored look, she looks like a pretty girl. The cover goes really well with the synopsis, which is an interesting one by the way! You must check it out..click on the cover and it will take you to the one and only Goodreads page..!!

Deadline by Simon Kernick

'We've got your daughter.'

"It's evening, you're back late from work - and the house is in darkness. You step inside, and the phone rings. You answer it - and your world turns upside down. Your fourteen-year-old daughter's been taken, and her kidnappers demand half a million pounds in cash. They give you 48 hours to raise the money, and warn you that if you call the police, she'll die. Trying desperately to remain calm, you realise that your husband - the man you married only two years previously - is also missing. But he can't be involved in your daughter's abduction. Or can he? As your nightmare begins, you can be certain of only two things: that you will do anything to get your daughter back alive - and that time is running out ..."

My first ever Book Launch!

Image
No i haven't written a book yet, this was my very first Book Launch that i attended. I went all alone, and going alone to unfamiliar places makes me nervous! The book store was sort of familiar but the people and bookshelves unknown.
I reached the store just in time for the launch! And now for the big moment- Whose book launch?
I went for the release of Turbulence by *drumroll* Samit Basu!!

Samit Basu is the author of several books including the GameWorld trilogy!
He wrote his Debut Novel at the age of 22, which made him the youngest Indian Author at the time her wrote his book. He is one of the few Indian YA fiction authors! He as also written several screenplays and comics. Most of his stories are to do with superhero-despite the fact that as a kid he wasn't allowed to read them.
His books are humorous and make allusions to various other literary works. He also happens to be my favorite author! (Even though i have't read all his books unlike other general author devotees..)
